Job Description

Location: Must currently reside in Portland, Oregon; relocation is not being considered for this role.

HELLO! NICE TO MEET YOU

Mixte is a community-driven communications agency whose only goal is justice, health and freedom for all people. We partner with bold leaders—nonprofits, advocacy groups and mission-driven organizations—who challenge the status quo and fight for justice. We’re a fully remote and diverse team (see our employee video). We encourage applicants from historically underrepresented and marginalized communities, as well as folks who are from, or who have experience working in, social-justice communities.

A LITTLE ABOUT YOU

  • You are dedicated to social justice – both in your local community and broader.
  • You live in Portland and have extensive experience in or familiarity with Oregon’s rural communities.
  • You are Spanish/English bilingual and have a strong familiarity working with immigrant and Indigenous communities, local and state lawmakers, and the state’s political spectrums. You know the leaders in BIPOC- and queer-communities, not because you’ve read about them, but because you’ve stood alongside them.
  • You’ve worked at big companies, but you want to be a part of a small and nimble team.
  • Your tenure with other employers – both the good and the bad – has allowed you to crystallize exactly what you’re looking for in your next career.
  • You love leading strategy and implementing comms – no task is too small for you.

COMPENSATION & CULTURE

  • This role reports directly to a company principal.
  • Salary for all director-level positions is $105,000.
  • We offer these outrageously awesome benefits, a four-day work week and a paid winter break between Dec 25 and New Year’s.

LEADERSHIP

  • Lead approximately 6-7 accounts in Oregon and develop trusting, long-term relationships with clients who renew contracts year over year.
  • Use your emotional intelligence to foresee and respond to client concerns before they materialize into something bigger.
  • Collaborate to develop solutions for necessary processes, noticeable trends, company-wide systems, shared client needs, team needs and more.
  • Find technological solutions to day-to-day challenges so we can work smarter, not harder.
  • Engage in advocacy actions that matter to you and build relationships within your local community as part of building Mixte’s brand awareness in Oregon.
  • Engage in financial, operational and HR conversations as it pertains to success in Oregon.

CREATIVE WORK

  • Oversee the development of communications deliverables that align with client and Mixte strategic plans, including but not limited to:
  • Mixte’s Momentum Model
  • Campaign strategies
  • Messaging frameworks
  • Creative assets (videos, gifs, photography, social content, creative campaigns)
  • All forms of written content (think everything from press releases to newsletters and social media posts)
  • Eventually oversee a team of one to two strategists focused on work in Oregon (the role is initially individual until the client work builds).
  • Push the envelope and see your work as outside-the-box catalyst for social change .
  • Ensure all work meets Mixte’s standard for quality-of-work .

BUSINESS GROWTH

  • Cultivate and earn new business for the company. Each director has specific revenue goals for the department as well as outreach goals for each team member to achieve.

REQUIREMENTS

  • You are located in Portland and involved with the local community.
  • Understanding of Oregon’s immigrant, native, queer and rural communities, housing and homelessness, and worker rights.
  • At least 7 years working at a communications agency leading accounts.
  • At least 7 years implementing public relations and digital communications.
  • Previous experience and comfort working 100% remotely.
  • History of developing and implementing strategic communications plans.
  • Outstanding leadership, program management and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in Asana, Slack, Microsoft, Google Workspace and AI-related platforms .
  • Spanish and English language proficiency.

Mixte is committed to providing access, equal opportunity, and reasonable accommodation for individuals with disabilities. Accordingly, if reasonable accommodations are required to fully participate in the application or interview process, to perform the essential functions of the position, and/or to receive all other benefits and privileges of employment, please let us know in a manner in which you are comfortable.

READY TO APPLY?

Please send your resume to hiring@gomixte.com with the subject line: “Your Oregon Communications Director,” and include a 30-second video that shows us why you should be our director in Oregon. You do not need to be in the video. Be specific. Be creative. Be yourself.

We will begin reviewing applications on April 13, and will keep our search open until we find the right candidate.

Please no calls.
