Job Summary

Own the research and strategic communications program to align DLCC’s legislative strategy, messaging, and brand with donor and media needs, while guiding the research team to deliver timely, sign-off-ready analysis that informs cross‑department campaigns.

Strategy ownership: maintain and translate DLCC’s strategic priorities into clear, audience-facing messaging and election‑cycle narratives.
Research leadership: plan and execute rapid, high‑impact studies and briefs that elevate DLCC’s brand and influence across state legislative races.
Team & partnership: supervise research staff, review peers’ work, ensure timely tact-checks, and coordinate with communications, digital, finance, and political teams on urgent opportunities.

Job Description

Strategy: Maintain accurate understanding of DLCC’s organizational, finance, communications, digital, and political strategies.
Messaging knowledge: Keep state legislative-focused narratives and messaging for DLCC audiences current.
Electoral messaging: Maintain knowledge of salient ballot and national audience messaging.
Research systems: Maintain info systems that analyze strengths/weaknesses of organizations focused on state elections.
Program analysis: Provide analysis of the progressive influence landscape and opportunities to elevate ballot level and DLCC.
Team leadership: Manage research products to support DLCC’s brand, principals, and surrogates; supervise and review materials.

Minimum four years of experience managing political or advocacy research projects and staff at the federal or state/local level, with often quick and rapid response deadlines.
Proven project and people management skills, including communications with external parties.
Advanced research skills and knowledge of LexisNexis, legislative resources, and campaign finance databases.
Advanced attention to detail, precision, and organization.
Advanced ability to write, edit, and fact-check with precision.
Advanced ability to understand or clarify objectives and prioritize work.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Suite.
Calm during high-volume, fast-paced periods.
A keen political instinct.
