Job Description Summary
Seeking instructor(s) for Tuesday/Thursday classes at 3:30pm, 4:30pm, and 5:30pm.
Under minimal supervision, develop, market, and implement creative and engaging material for Community Programs' fee-based education and recreation program. Ensure that activities are safely and effectively implemented in an organized and professional manner.
Rate of pay will be variable and based directly off student enrollment numbers. Net income from the course(s) may be split 50/50 up to $125 hourly for instructional time.
Essential Functions & Qualifications
Lead and instruct water-based fitness classes, including water aerobics, aqua yoga, and other aquatic exercise formats.
Design and implement fitness programs that address the diverse needs, abilities, and goals of participants. Incorporate a variety of exercises that promote cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, flexibility, balance, and overall wellness.
Assess participant fitness levels and health considerations to provide appropriate exercise modifications and ensure safe participation.
Demonstrate proper exercise techniques and provide instruction, feedback, and encouragement.
Maintain a safe aquatic environment by enforcing facility policies and safety procedures. Monitor participants for signs of distress and respond appropriately to emergencies.
Inspect aquatic fitness equipment to ensure it is safe, functional, and properly stored after use.
Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and energetic class atmosphere that encourages participant engagement and success.
Required Qualifications
Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community education and recreation participants.
Minimum age of 18 years.
Knowledge of safe exercise techniques, injury prevention, and risk management.
Current Aquatic Fitness Instructor certification from a recognized certifying organization within 60 days of hire.
CPR, First Aid, and AED certification within 60 days of hire. Students currently enrolled at Cuesta College will be given priority. Applications and course proposals will be reviewed year-round.
This assignment has no guaranteed pay or hours and will start only after hiring, and course enrollment requirements are met.
SALARY: Variable based on student enrollment. $24.51 up to $125 an hour.

Additional Information
As an Aqua Fitness Instructor, you will lead safe, engaging, and effective group fitness classes in an aquatic environment. Instructors are responsible for motivating and educating participants while enhancing their overall fitness experience through well-designed and inclusive exercise programs. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate exercises, provide appropriate modifications, and offer feedback to support participant's progress and success.
Under minimal supervision, instructors may assist in the development, promotion, and implementation of Community Programs' fee-based education and recreation offerings. All activities must be conducted safely, professionally, and in an organized manner.
Community Programs is seeking instructors for Tuesday and Thursday classes held at 7:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m., 3:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., and 5:30 p.m. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
This is a short-term/temporary position. Students currently enrolled at Cuesta College will be given priority. Applications and course proposals will be reviewed year-round.
