FirstGenTalks is seeking enthusiastic and relationship-driven Community Engagement & Outreach Interns to help expand awareness, engagement, and community connections across colleges, universities, student organizations, nonprofits, and programs serving first-generation students. This internship is ideal for students or recent graduates interested in community engagement, higher education, student affairs, communications, nonprofit leadership, marketing, public relations, EdTech, or startup growth.

About FirstGenTalks

FirstGenTalks is an emerging EdTech and financial literacy platform designed to support first-generation students through technology, coaching, scholarship support, and financial confidence-building resources. The platform includes tools such as Budget Boss, GrantMatchED, and FinLead Academy.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain relationships with student organizations, campus leaders, and community partners

• Support outreach and engagement efforts with colleges, universities, TRIO programs, nonprofits, and community-based organizations

• Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and supporting campus ambassadors

• Promote FirstGenTalks programs, events, workshops, and resources through virtual and in-person engagement opportunities

• Help identify opportunities for campus partnerships, student engagement initiatives, and community collaborations

• Support planning and execution of outreach campaigns, informational sessions, and community events

• Maintain community engagement tracking systems and outreach databases

• Gather feedback from students and partners to help improve programs, resources, and user experiences

• Participate in weekly team meetings and contribute ideas for increasing student engagement and community impact

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong communication, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills

• Interest in higher education, student success, nonprofit leadership, community engagement, or EdTech

• Comfortable networking and engaging with students, campus leaders, and community partners

• Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple projects independently

• Experience with Canva, Google Workspace, Airtable, LinkedIn, Discord, or social media platforms is a plus

• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced startup environment

Compensation Structure:

This role includes performance-based stipend opportunities tied to community engagement outcomes, ambassador recruitment and activation, campus engagement efforts, partnership development, and student growth metrics. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process.

Additional Information:

• Remote role with flexible scheduling, 10-15 hours per week

• Academic credit may be available depending on institutional requirements
