Job Description

Responsibilities

  • The Communications Specialist is responsible for internal and external communications planning and execution for agency clients by consulting with leaders and subject matter experts to proactively create and implement strategic communications plans that support agency strategic goals.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of communication, marketing, journalism or public relations experience that clearly demonstrate the following:
  • - Skills in writing, editing, proofreading and publishing content.
  • - Ability to develop communications plans to support client goals.
  • - Human Relation skills sufficient to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other staff and client partners.
  • - Experience using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Teams) or comparable software.
  • - Ability to communicate effectively with individuals with a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Employment reference checks will be conducted on finalists. This may include a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with the applicant's former employer(s).

Preferred

  • Three years of communications, marketing, journalism or public relations experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or Public Relations.
  • Experience communicating using plain language and Associated Press Style.
  • Knowledge of the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act and other state or federal laws dictating requirements for data privacy and confidentiality such as Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Experience coordinating events, presentations or speeches.
  • Experience with SharePoint.
  • Experience coordinating with advertising agencies.
