Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Support the management of Mississippi Votes’ TikTok and Instagram accounts.
  • Create original social media content, including short-form videos, Reels, TikToks, graphics, photos, stories, and other digital assets.
  • Produce a required number of approved communications assets each month, as established by the Communications Department and monthly content calendar.
  • Assist with brainstorming and developing creative content that makes civic engagement, voting, organizing, and Mississippi Votes’ work accessible and engaging to young audiences.
  • Identify relevant social media trends, sounds, formats, and opportunities that can be adapted appropriately for Mississippi Votes.
  • Appear on camera for Mississippi Votes social media content when needed.
  • Capture photos, videos, interviews, and other content at Mississippi Votes programs and events.
  • Attend select community events, organizational programs, trainings, and activities to provide on-site communications and social media coverage.
  • Assist with organizing and maintaining digital content and media assets.
  • Support audience engagement and other social media management activities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at Jackson State University, Tougaloo College, Millsaps College, or Belhaven University .
  • Be available to work a minimum of three days per week on a consistent schedule.
  • Have reliable transportation and the ability to travel to Mississippi Votes’ offices across the state to support community events, and other assignments as needed and assigned by the Communications Director.
  • Be willing and comfortable appearing on camera.
  • Have familiarity with Instagram and TikTok and an understanding of how young audiences use each platform.
  • Have an interest in social media, communications, storytelling, marketing, digital organizing, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
  • Be able to create content using a smartphone and be willing to learn additional content creation and editing tools.
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be creative, dependable, organized, responsive to feedback, and able to meet deadlines.
  • Be willing to participate in required communications training throughout the internship.

Preferred

  • Experience with Canva, CapCut, Adobe Creative Suite, photography, videography, graphic design, or video editing is preferred but not required.
