Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and curious Business Development & CRM Intern who wants hands-on experience learning how companies identify prospects, develop new business opportunities, and manage a professional sales pipeline.

A major component of this internship will be learning and using HubSpot CRM and Sales Hub. The intern will receive practical experience researching potential customers, building prospect lists, maintaining CRM records, tracking outreach, managing leads and opportunities, and creating reports that help management evaluate business-development activity.

This is intended to be a learning-focused position for a student interested in sales, business development, marketing, entrepreneurship, account management, or consumer products.

What You Will Learn

During the internship, the student will learn how to:

  • Use HubSpot CRM and Sales Hub in a real business environment.
  • Build and maintain a professional prospect and customer database.
  • Research companies, industries, decision-makers, and potential business opportunities.
  • Understand how a company moves a prospect from initial research through outreach, qualification, and ultimately a business opportunity.
  • Organize contacts, companies, tasks, activities, and deals within HubSpot.
  • Develop and manage a sales pipeline.
  • Track calls, emails, meetings, follow-ups, and other sales activities.
  • Segment prospects based on industry, company type, opportunity, geography, and other criteria.
  • Understand the fundamentals of lead qualification and prioritization.
  • Create HubSpot reports and dashboards to measure business-development activity.
  • Use data to identify opportunities and recommend next steps.
  • Develop professional business communication and presentation skills.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Research prospective customers, retailers, brands, strategic partners, and other potential business opportunities.

  • Assist with initial prospecting and follow-up activities under the direction of the sales team.
  • Help prepare background materials for prospective customer meetings.
  • Track new opportunities and follow-up requirements.
  • Participate in business-development and sales meetings when appropriate.
  • Assist with special projects involving new customers, markets, products, partnerships, or channels.

The intern will receive training and practical experience using HubSpot and will be expected to become increasingly proficient with the platform throughout the internship.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Maintaining accurate deal stages and pipeline information.
  • Recording sales activities, notes, meetings, and follow-up tasks.
  • Creating prospect lists and CRM segments.
  • Maintaining accurate and organized CRM data.

  • Creating tasks and reminders for sales follow-up.
  • Learning to use HubSpot prospecting and sales productivity tools.
  • Creating basic reports and dashboards.
  • Preparing weekly reports summarizing prospecting activity, opportunities, pipeline development, and next steps.

Internship Project

During the internship, the student will be given responsibility for a defined business-development project.

For example, the intern may be asked to research a specific industry or customer category, identify 50–100 qualified prospective companies, identify appropriate decision-makers, enter and organize those prospects in HubSpot, assist in developing an outreach strategy, track activity, and prepare a final report on the opportunities identified.

The objective is for the intern to experience the complete business-development process rather than simply performing administrative tasks.

Depending upon available HubSpot features and course requirements, training may include:

  • HubSpot CRM fundamentals
