Job Description

Expected hours: 15 – 20 per week 

Pay rate: $50/hr 

AVIXA is looking for an Associate Editor (Contract) to support the Digital Content Manager with editorial tasks ranging from writing SEO content to supporting digital production. 

This is a mid-level editorial role, suitable for someone with several years of content writing and editing experience. Familiarity with the AV, IT, or Tech industries is a bonus.  

Note: This position requires set working hours each week. Schedule is flexible, but availability must stay generally the same each week.  

Responsibilities  

Content Creation 

  • Research, pitch, and write original articles focused on trending AV topics in North America 
  • Translate complex AV concepts into clear, engaging, and accessible content 
  • Maintain awareness of industry developments, technologies, and market trends 

Editing & Quality Control 

  • Edit internal and freelance content for clarity, structure, accuracy, and voice 
  • Provide clear, constructive feedback and revision guidance to writers 
  • Ensure content aligns with editorial standards and brand voice 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned freelance writers throughout the content development process 
  • Review submissions and manage revisions to ensure content meets AVIXA editorial standards 

Editorial Coordination 

  • Create detailed content briefs, outlines, and assignments for writers 
  • Manage deadlines and track content through the editorial pipeline 
  • Communicate with contributors to keep projects moving smoothly 
  • Support the Content Manager in maintaining the editorial calendar 

SEO & Content Performance 

  • Conduct basic keyword and search trend research to inform content development 
  • Collaborate with the Content Manager to support organic traffic growth  
  • Identify opportunities for content refreshes, optimization, and internal linking 
  • Apply SEO best practices across editorial content while maintaining content quality  

Required Qualifications 

  • At least five years of experience in editorial content, journalism, or digital publishing 
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with a portfolio of published work 
  • Experience working with freelance writers and providing constructive feedback 
  • Comfort managing your own workload and proactively taking on new tasks 
  • Knowledge of SEO‑aware editing and headline writing 
  • Availability during established core business hours for team meetings and collaboration 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience translating technical information into audience-friendly content. 
  • Experience working within a project management system 
  • Familiarity with professional AV, enterprise technology, or related industries 
  • Comfort working in a CMS-driven publishing environment 
  • Experience supporting newsletters or recurring editorial programs
