Job Summary

Own media relations for consumer brands, shaping strategy, crafting persuasive pitches, and guiding junior staff on materials that capture editors' attention.

  • Media Strategy & Analysis: lead strategy development, competitive snapshots, and media list targeting.
  • Editorial Outreach: build relationships with editors/producers and secure coverage across consumer verticals.
  • Storytelling & Materials: mentor on pitch letters, press releases, briefing books to win coverage and shape client counsel.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Support all Consumer Brands accounts by leading media strategy development, pitching media and securing coverage for our clients
  • Lead development of media analysis documents, as well as competitive snapshots
  • Help guide junior team members in the development of written materials that will make media and consumers take notice, including persuasive pitch letters, press releases, interview briefing books, etc.
  • Oversee the development of targeted media lists; help junior team members build relationships with editors and producers across multiple consumer verticals
  • Stay on top of daily news and media trends to guide client counsel and keep team informed
  • Assist in the development of internal materials and presentations on media relations best practices and tools

Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree in Public Relations, Communications or a related discipline
  • 8-10+ years of experience in Public Relations in the consumer practice of an agency, experience in consumer media relations required
  • Creative thinker with a pulse on what’s happening in culture; shares a passion for bringing forward-looking ideas to the team and client
  • Flexibility/versatility to tackle different tasks throughout the day and pivot with little or no warning based on client/team needs
  • Excellent writing skills are essential to this position, as well as great attention to detail, organization, time management, multi-tasking and proactivity
  • Strong verbal communication skills, poise and professionalism
  • Knowledge of media tools such as Cision, Muck Rack, etc
