Job Summary

You will own the end-to-end creation and coordination of campus social media content, from photos and videos to graphics, while coordinating coverage of events and developing short-form videos and on-camera content. You will collaborate with teams across campus to plan content calendars and stay on top of trends for engaging posts.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Content Creation: Develop and publish compelling content (photos, videos, graphics, captions) tailored for platforms like Instagram, TikTok and Facebook.
  • Event Coverage: Attend university events (some during evenings and weekends) to capture content showcasing campus life and student experiences.
  • Short-Form Video Production: Film and edit short-form videos using native platform tools or third-party applications such as CapCut, Edits or Adobe Premiere.
  • On-Camera Engagement: Appear in or narrate video content, demonstrating comfort and enthusiasm in front of the camera.
  • Content Planning: Collaborate with the social media team and departments across campus to brainstorm ideas and assist in developing content calendars.
  • Graphic Design: Create visually appealing graphics using tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite to support social media posts.
  • Trend Monitoring & Audience Research: Stay informed about current social media trends, memes and cultural moments to keep content relevant and engaging.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently when necessary.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other related tasks as assigned to support the Strategic Communications & Marketing department.

Requirements

  • Must be a currently enrolled Washburn University student and in good academic standing.

Preferred

  • Prior experience in creating social media content, particularly short-form videos.
  • Enthusiastic about representing and promoting Washburn University through creative content.
  • Actively engaged in campus life and student organizations, with strong awareness of current events, trends and culture at Washburn; Well-connected and in tune with what’s happening on campus.
  • Proficiency in using smartphones or cameras for high-quality photo and video capture; familiarity with editing tools like native platform tools, CapCut, Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong understanding of internet culture and content strategy. Up to date with the latest social media trends and platform features.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
