Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Be a Content and News Junkie: You live and breathe content and the news. You maintain a strong pulse on the entertainment, lifestyle, sports, and consumer media landscapes to identify timely opportunities for pitching and storytelling. You recognize when a trend is bubbling up and work quickly to figure out how our clients can authentically enter the conversation.
  • Flex Your Rolodex: You have a network of go-to media contacts who trust your POV. You will leverage your existing network of key editors and journalists across core verticals while continuously building new media relationships.
  • Lead the Strategy: You own the media relations process from strategy through execution. You’ll drive the development of both proactive and reactive outreach plans, leading everything from initial brainstorming and planning to pitching and post-campaign recaps, with a relentless focus on securing meaningful earned placements.
  • Architect of Narrative: You conduct the media audits and research on brands, talent, and trends that help develop thoughtful and strategic POVs. You oversee the creation and refinement of all media materials, including media lists, pitches, key messaging, and briefing books, ensuring every narrative is compelling and brand-right.
  • Secure the Spotlight: You play an integral role in talent-driven campaigns. You’ll lead talent interview bookings and execute media relations logistics, including developing briefing materials and run-of-show documents. You also support media events by securing relevant attendance and providing on-site staffing.
  • Serve as the Bridge: You are the lead media point of contact in key meetings with account teams. You provide the strategic counsel and media expertise they rely on, and you’ll proactively participate in agency brainstorm sessions for both client programs and new business to bring a media-first lens to every creative idea.
  • Master the Logistics: You are a project management pro. You’ll manage multiple projects across multiple accounts, keeping up with emails and updates with a high level of organization. You are responsible for managing core departmental resources, such as editorial calendars, award trackers, and curated media lists, ensuring no detail is overlooked.
  • Collaborative Mindset: You are a team player who shares credit, shows respect, and welcomes feedback. You collaborate effectively with teammates to draft and edit work prior to delivery, bringing new ideas to the table that benefit both the team and the agency.

Requirements

  • The Experience: 5–7 years of PR agency or media relations experience where you’ve truly "earned your stripes" in outreach and strategy.
  • The Portfolio: A proven track record of securing national, top-tier earned media coverage across a variety of consumer and lifestyle verticals.
  • The Knowledge: A degree in PR, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
  • The Tools: You’re a pro with the industry’s "greatest hits" like Muckrack, Meltwater, and Critical Mention, plus the usual Microsoft Office and Google suites.
  • The Attitude: You are a resourceful, organized problem-solver with a "can-do" spirit, always looking for opportunities to improve the agency’s media processes and grow professionally.

Benefits

  • a hybrid work model;
  • a “work from anywhere in the US” policy (up to four weeks a year);
  • a year-round staff training and development curriculum; and
  • a staff-led Action Group dedicated to DEI excellence in the agency and industry (read our DEI statement here: https://hunterpr.com/dei/)
  • Perks? We have perks. When you work at HUNTER, you can expect Bring Your Parents (And Kids) to Work Days, regular volunteer Days of Service, mid-day Cupcakes and Cocktails mixers and epic Halloween and holiday parties.
