Responsibilities

• Develops, organizes, prepares curriculum, supervises and manages Summer Camp, Afterschool Care and Day off School activities. Programs are primarily at the Fleetwood Jourdain Community center but may be held at various sites throughout the City.
• Recruits, interviews, and recommends part-time staff, seasonal staff and contracted vendors for programs.
• Trains, supervises, and evaluates employees and volunteer staff.
• Ensures programs and services are well organized, meet their objective and are safe for all participants.
• Assists with conducting community outreach to local organizations, schools and affiliate organizations.
• Assists the Division Manager and Program Coordinators with developing, executing, implementing, and adhering to annual budget, strategic and operational plan for the department/division.
• Assists with the updating of personnel manual and participant handbooks for Afterschool and Camps, including policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
• Attends trainings and conferences to enhance personal development and gain more knowledge.
• Attends department and other meetings as required.
• Develop and maintain a positive public relations image which may require speaking engagements or other public relations activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree preferred from an accredited college or university in Recreation, Education, Leisure Studies or a substantially similar area or three (3) years or more of programming experience in a parks and recreation program
• Must possess three (3) or more years of recreation experience within a culturally diverse community and must possess one (1) or more years of experience in a supervisory capacity.
• Preferred valid Certified Parks & Recreation Professional (CPRP) obtained through National Parks & Recreation Association (NRPA)
• Must possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
• Must possess current First Aid/CPR/AED certifications or be able to acquire and present active certifications as a condition of employment within 6 months of employment and maintain them as a condition of employment.
