Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Assist in development and implementing the plan for broad promotion of the Birmingham Zoo through public relations functions and social media outlets.
  • Interact with media as well as assist managers with marketing initiatives and aiding other department managers as needed.
  • Content creator for all active social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Twitter)
  • Maintain active presence across all platforms by responding to questions and monitoring comments
  • Create social media campaigns and ideas to help promote the Zoo across all departments
  • Create weekly social media schedules in accordance with event promotions, fundraising campaigns, education programs and camps, Zoo conservation stories, animal announcements, organization updates and press releases.
  • Maintain marketing and social media request form
  • Serve as a marketing photographer and videographer – skilled experience in both areas
  • Work closely with Conservation Manager, Animal departments, and Education to gather and curate content
  • Gather monthly social media analytics to create reports

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design or equivalent
  • One to three years’ relevant experience, preferably with a nonprofit or media organization, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience dealing with advertising agencies, print houses and the media preferred
  • Must have a current, valid driver’s license with no prior traffic violations within the last three years.

  • Adobe Creative Suite (specifically: Photoshop/Lightroom, Premiere Pro, and After Effects)
  • Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (TikTok is a plus but not required)
  • Video production (including use of equipment, filming, and editing)
  • Photography (including use of equipment and editing)

Preferred

  • Strong interest in advancing the conservation missions of zoos and aquariums.
  • High self-motivation and a detail-oriented work ethic.
  • Professional, positive, and enthusiastic demeanor.
