Job Description

Responsibilities

  • The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for developing strategic content that demonstrates the impact and significance of ALCE and FAEIS programs, research, and people — supporting college priorities related to enrollment, philanthropy, and institutional reputation.
  • The position will manage and optimize digital and print content for both FAEIS and ALCE, including websites, social media, and publications.
  • Responsibilities include maintaining accurate, accessible, and strategically aligned content; supporting the development of digital and print materials; and ensuring compliance with Virginia Tech brand, editorial, and digital accessibility standards.
  • The Marketing and Communications Manager will work with leadership to identify key audiences and develop targeted communications and marketing plans that drive measurable impact.
  • The position is eligible for a hybrid work agreement and the incumbent must be in commutable distance to Blacksburg, VA with a weekly on-campus presence.
  • The position is expected to attend/cover some events outside of normal business hours.
  • All marketing and communications positions embedded in units across the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences maintain a dotted-line relationship with CALS Marketing and Communications to ensure alignment with college priorities, shared standards, and professional development.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in communications, marketing, agricultural communications, or related field, or bachelor’s degree with relevant experience
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic marketing and communications plans
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
  • Experience with digital communications platforms, web content management systems, and social media
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and project management skills

Preferred

  • Experience in higher education, agriculture, or Extension
  • Familiarity with Virginia Tech brand standards and communications practices
  • Experience with analytics, measurement, and performance reporting
