Job Summary

Own the Immunology Institute communications and outreach portfolio by turning complex immunology into accessible content and coordinating website, newsletter, social channels, and education events for broad audiences.

  • Content ownership: interpret research findings for diverse audiences and translate into manuscripts, news, and progress updates.
  • Platform stewardship: maintain the Immunology Institute site, weekly program updates, newsletter, and social content.
  • Community and events: drive outreach with schools and organizations and coordinate multi-disciplinary collaborations.

Job Description

  • Interpret scientific research and public health findings for a broad audience using training and expertise.
  • Write, edit and translate immunology content for manuscripts, news and research progress.
  • Organize opportunities for II basic scientists and clinicians to collaborate on multi-disciplinary themes.
  • Using UAB templates, create and maintain the Immunology Institute website with weekly program updates.
  • Manage content for the Institute's weekly newsletter, daily notifications, Institute X site, and Instagram.
  • Submit media communications for Institute events and noteworthy news items through UAB eReporter, HSOM Medicine News and UAB Research Matters.
  • Interface with II faculty and trainee members.
  • Initiate outreach and education activities with community organizations and schools; respond to queries for outreach and education.
  • Design and distribute all Institute related promotional materials for social media and website.
  • Ensure materials comply with UAB policies and procedures.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field, and four years of related experience.
  • BS/BA in immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, cell biology, or a related life science field.
  • 2+ years of scientific/research training.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of the immune system and excellent scientific writing, editing and storytelling.
