Job Summary

Own and codify the college wide marketing and communications agenda, aligning with the MPC mission and strategy while running the Office of Marketing and Communications day to day.

  • Growth Infrastructure: Build and execute a college wide plan with stakeholders to recruit students, raise awareness, and promote events.
  • Brand Management and Operations: Oversee external and internal communications and manage staff and budgets.
  • Outreach, Events, Community Engagement: Design outreach programs with college partners to drive enrollment, awareness, and events.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Under general direction, the Director of Marketing and Communications develops, recommends, and implements a comprehensive marketing and communications plan to support the College vision, mission and strategic goals.
  • The Director works collaboratively with College stakeholders to design and implement outreach programs to recruit students, raise community awareness, and promote College events.
  • The Director oversees and disseminates all external and internal communication programs.
  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the Office of Marketing and Communications. Select, supervise, train, and evaluate staff. Develop, oversee and manage the operational budget and expenditures.
  • Plan, organize and oversee College events as assigned.
  • Maintain an understanding of current ideas, trends, laws, regulations, guidelines and practices pertaining to the areas of responsibility through continued study and participation in professional organizations.
  • Serve on College and regional committees as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, public and community relations, graphic design, or communications including the coordination and supervision over production and design.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain prior to employment, a valid California driver's license and must have an acceptable driving record and current vehicle insurance meeting State of California requirements.

Preferred

  • Experience in an educational or governmental setting.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds of community college students and employees.
  • Master's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Higher Education, Business Administration, or a related field, or five years of professional experience.
  • Demonstrated success working with local media and serving as an institutional spokesperson.
  • Bilingual proficiency (Spanish preferred) or demonstrated experience communicating with multilingual communities.
  • Evidence of supervisory experience hiring, training, and evaluating staff, managing day-to-day office operations, and overseeing operational budgets.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of digital accessibility standards, including but not limited to Section 508 and ADA Title II requirements, and an understanding of WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines to help ensure accessible and inclusive marketing content across digital platforms in accordance with federal law.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain prior to employment, a valid California driver's license and must have an acceptable driving record and current vehicle insurance meeting State of California requirements.
