Job Summary

Drive Hogle Zoo’s social and PR presence by owning content creation, community engagement, influencer partnerships, and on-site media coordination to grow brand reputation and audience.

  • Social & community ownership: daily management, listening, and engagement across channels, including after-hours.
  • Content programs & partnerships: tailor campaigns using copy, visuals, and video; build influencer/brand collaborations to raise awareness.
  • PR & events support: draft earned media content, facilitate media visits, and serve as spokesperson as needed.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Advancement team (marketing, creative, development) to develop and implement engaging marketing communication strategies, specifically on social media.
  • Supports community and social partner logistics
  • Social media: Daily social community management, monitoring, listening, and engaging, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Gather, organize, and create tailored social content (from concept and approval to posting and engaging) using copywriting, graphics, photos, and video, and following approved protocols.
  • Identify and create social programs for key influencers and brands/organizations to increase Hogle Zoo’s brand awareness and reputation.
  • Communications and public relations: Supports event promotion, animal communications, zoo drill communications, and departmental requests.
  • Write and edit content for earned media, email, and website as needed.
  • Supports on-site media visits and interview requests.
  • Act as an online and traditional media spokesperson for the zoo as needed; prepare and interview subject matter experts.
  • Supports proactive communication projects on evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or related field, or minimum five years of work experience in social media, online content development, marketing, public relations, or communications strategy roles.
  • Demonstrable social management, channel growth, and written and visual content creation for a business or organization.
  • Professional experience managing business social media accounts and using social media for customer service.
  • Confidence posting and engaging with positive and negative comments in a respectful and accurate way that fits the zoo brand.
  • Experience in basic graphic design, photography, and videography for social media use.
  • Operational knowledge of trends and audiences of multiple social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, and/or Adobe Suite.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills with varied audiences, including internal and external communications.
  • Understanding of appropriate tone and mission focus.
  • Understanding of calendaring and project management
  • Possess a positive, flexible, and collaborative team attitude.
  • Excellent critical thinking, interpersonal, time-management, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexible with hours, evenings, holidays, and weekends required for events.
  • Ability to work well under tight deadlines and under pressure.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds, bend, stoop and move quickly.
  • Experience in crisis response and strategy is a plus.
