Job Summary

Own and scale a credibility-first online community by merging in-app growth with authentic external presence, turning curious lurkers into active members through rituals, live programming, and a connected ambassador-led network.

  • Grow in-app engagement through discussions, groups, rituals, weekly programming, and live CaseLab-style activations.
  • Bridge external communities to drive active-member conversions while maintaining a credibility-first voice.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • In-app community growth — discussions, groups, member rituals, weekly programming, member spotlights, contribution loops
  • External community presence — showing up where curious people already are (Discord, Reddit, niche forums, X spaces, podcast communities) and pulling them in
  • The bridge between the two — converting external lurkers into in-app active members
  • Member rituals and live programmes — weekly cadences, "case of the week" formats, CaseLab-style activations, supporting Nanu Orbis (our monthly members-only briefing)
  • The Network — owning the community side of our communities and connection layer when it ships
  • Playbooks the team can run — guidelines, moderation patterns, onboarding flows, programming templates, ambassador-facing kits
  • Weekly metrics ownership — active members, posts per active member, retention curves, conversion from external to in-app
  • Working closely with the Ambassador programme, social team, and product

Requirements

  • Have grown a real community before — Discord server, subreddit, app community, forum, IRL scene. We don't care about the channel; we care that you've taken something from quiet to alive and can explain how.
  • Are a builder AND an operator . You can design the playbook, then go run it yourself. You're as comfortable writing a moderation policy as you are replying to the 47th comment of the day.
  • Are genuinely curious about the subject matter and can hold a credibility-first stance — neither dismissive nor sensational. Signal, not noise.
  • Write well in a calm, grown-up, curiosity-led voice. You understand that how you reply to a new member's first post sets the tone for the whole platform.
  • Are operationally sharp — comfortable owning weekly metrics, running rituals on a calendar, and reporting on what's working and what isn't.
  • Know how to show up in external communities without being a marketer . You add value first; growth follows.

Preferred

  • Bonus: background in moderation at scale, online community building, niche subcultures, journalism, or research networks.

Unknown Systems

Unknown Systems builds community-driven software for the world’s most complex and unexplained questions. We believe citizen science is one of the most underutilised forces in modern research. When you give curious, motivated people the right infrastructure, structured submission, evidence attachment, credibility weighting, peer review, and a searchable archive, communities don’t just talk. They generate real, research-grade signal from the noise. Thousands of individual observations, properly documented and connected, become something no single researcher or institution could produce alone. That’s the foundation everything we build is designed on.Our first platform, Nanu, is a credibility-first space for experiencers, researchers, and enthusiasts to document encounters, explore evidence, and connect patterns across nine categories of unexplained phenomena: UAP & UFO, Non-Human Intelligence, Cryptids, Paranormal, Consciousness, Myths & History, Ritual & Occult, Natural Phenomena, and Other Anomalies. Every submission is structured. Every claim is weighted. Every case can be challenged, supported, and where the evidence holds, elevated through a community peer review process. The result is a living archive that grows smarter over time, built by the people closest to the phenomena themselves. No ads. No data selling. No sensationalism. Just structure, community, and serious inquiry.Discover. Discuss. Disclose.
