Job Summary

Support Berkeley Lab’s Engineering Division as a Communications Student Assistant, producing content and managing assets for division communications.

  • Own content creation and asset management (emails, web, social, articles) for the Division.
  • Must-have: Excellent writing plus archiving + tagging in the Berkeley Lab DAM system.
  • Standout: Exposure to video production, photography, and graphic design in a science-communication context.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Support the Engineering Division by writing emails, web content, social media content, and articles.
  • Take ownership of archiving images and videos for the Division, including researching and writing captions and ensuring the assets are properly tagged.
  • Write articles showcasing the Division’s Engineering work.
  • Assist with video production, photography and graphic design.
  • Ensure accuracy of items produced for the Division and help shepherd assets through approval processes.
  • Develop campaigns to support the goals of the Division.
  • Pitch ideas for content, articles, and communications pieces.
  • Proof read and edit materials for the Division.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate student in good standing majoring in Communications, Media Studies, Journalism, Marketing, English, or a related field.
  • Ability to oversee archiving photos and digital media in the Berkeley Lab digital asset management system, including gathering images, tagging and meta data, and researching, writing and ensuring the accuracy of captions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills and command of standard MSOffice suite.
  • Strong interest in digital communication, content creation, social media, and science communication.
  • Organized, reliable, and proactive with excellent attention to detail.

Preferred

  • Basic knowledge of tools such as Google Workspace, Canva, and WordPress.
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including video editing and/or graphic design skills.
  • Understanding of databases and archiving.
