Job Description

Responsibilities

  • The Communications Specialist I writes and edits communications for a department, college, and/or division under general supervision.
  • Develops and implements plans, activities, and tactics to support the goals of assigned areas.
  • Coordinates the production of materials and resources through a variety of platforms, including digital and physical mediums.
  • The Communications Specialist I works in collaboration with the Honors College-College Relations team.
  • Responsible for the creation and support of print, video, social media, and web-based communications that promote and are descriptive of the Honors College and its programs.
  • Developing, organizing, maintaining, and archiving text, photo, and video content for the Honors College website; monitoring the day-to-day quality of web content, including making daily updates to the website-including a transition to Word Press platform; and writing, editing, and publishing social media content as well as monitoring analytics.
  • Tasks will include writing, editing, and proofreading; editing photos, and designing and executing various targeted communications.
  • This position will also work with and provides administrative and event support to the College Relations team and the College’s External Affairs and Communications Program Director and the Development Officer on alumni and donor engagement and outreach initiatives.
  • Collaborates with the Experiential Education team to coordinate and promote opportunities with internships, experiential learning, and external and corporate partners.
  • Provides technical support to Honors College colleagues related to accessibility standards.

Requirements

  • Required Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree and some journalism, public relations, marketing, or communications experience.
  • Skills and Knowledge:  Experience or familiarity using web software programs, such as Wordpress, Canva, Adobe, MS Office 365, Mail Chimp, and social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter.

Preferred

  • Preferred Qualifications:  Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Marketing, Advertising, or other closely related field. One or more year of experience writing website content.
