Job Summary

Own the college’s storytelling engine across platforms from research to promotion, with a strong emphasis on media relations, crisis-ready messaging, and rapid social coverage.

  • Content Ownership: Source and write stories for web, social, ezine, Wingspan, ads, and marketing pieces.
  • Storytelling and Video: Produce short-form video and social content solo or with the college community.
  • Media Relations & Crisis: Build reporter pipelines, pitch stories, coordinate interviews, monitor placements, and support 24/7 social listening and crisis comms.

Job Description

  • Collaborate with Strategic Communications on content strategy; research and write a wide variety of compelling stories that can be shared across platforms including web, social, president's ezine, Wingspan magazine, digital advertising, and marketing pieces.
  • Create compelling short-form video and social media posts independently and in collaboration with other team members or the college community.
  • Develop and maintain strong relations with the college’s administration, faculty, deans, directors, student leaders, and campus reporters to find stories and stay on top of college news; attend events and conduct interviews for promotional purposes.
  • Pitch stories to news media and other social media influencers; provide information and visuals to reporters, writers, and editors; coordinate interviews as needed; serve as primary liaison to Campus Current.
  • Edit news releases and feature stories written by other team members.
  • Monitor and track the college’s media placements; identify reporters and outlets, distribute news releases, and monitor reports.
  • Work closely with the public relations manager in monitoring the college’s social media accounts 24/7; take the lead monitoring social media to address inquiries and concerns as needed.
  • Support crisis communications as needed, ensuring messages reflect integrity, honesty, and transparency.
