Job Summary

Own a focused government communications function, advising leadership and delivering press materials, speeches, social and email content, plus outreach collateral for LEO.

  • Communications Ownership: Advise on strategy and manage day-to-day messaging for LEO leaders and audiences.
  • Content Production: Write press releases, speeches, briefings, social posts, and promotional emails; create outreach collateral and presentations.
  • Special Projects: Contribute to cross-cut initiatives and discretionary assignments led by the Communications Director.

Responsibilities

  • This position will serve as a Communications Representative for the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO), performing day-to-day communication activities.
  • Work with LEO leadership to ensure effective communication, advise on general strategy, write press releases and speeches/briefings, draft social and email promotional content, develop PowerPoint presentations and other marketing and outreach collateral.
  • Serve on special projects at the discretion of the LEO Communications Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, broadcasting, telecommunications, advertising, communication arts, public relations or a related field.
  • One year of professional experience in preparing and disseminating informational and promotional materials equivalent to a Communications Representative 9 (Communications Representative 10).
  • Two years of professional experience in preparing and disseminating informational and promotional materials equivalent to a Communications Representative, including one year equivalent to a Communications Representative 10 (Communications Representative P11).
  • Alternative Education and Experience options include: substitution of two years experience for the education requirement; completion of 60 semester (90 term) credits including 16 credits in English/journalism/communications/etc. and two years experience; or educational level typically with four years of experience.
  • Must be able to perform duties in Michigan (remote/hybrid possible based on performance/operational need) and relocate if currently outside Michigan.
