Job Description

Responsibilities

  • develop and execute MAD’s communications and marketing strategies.
  • work closely with MAD leadership and stakeholders across MIT to ensure consistent, compelling messaging that reflects MAD’s mission and values.
  • collaborate with MAD leadership to develop and implement communications strategies that support institutional goals and elevate MAD’s visibility.
  • translate complex ideas into clear, engaging narratives for diverse audiences including students, faculty, partners, and the public.
  • develop new editorial formats and thought-leadership content that position MAD as a hub for design at MIT.
  • use analytics, both quantitative and qualitative, to assess communications performance and inform future strategy.
  • contribute to brand development and ensure consistency across platforms and materials.
  • support strategic planning for campaigns, events, and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field;
  • a minimum of five years of experience in communications, preferably in an academic or nonprofit setting;
  • strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills across media formats;
  • demonstrated graphic design skills and proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop);
  • experience managing websites using CMS platforms (e.g., Drupal, WordPress);
  • experience managing social media platforms and tools (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn, Hootsuite/Buffer);
  • proven ability to use analytics to guide strategy and report outcomes;
  • excellent organizational and project management skills.

Nice To Have

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience;
  • familiarity with design, architecture, or sustainability-related fields;
  • experience with Adobe Creative Suite and CMS platforms;
  • background in event promotion and media relations;
  • knowledge of accessibility and usability standards for digital content.
