Project Manager — Web Application Development We are seeking a high-ownership, highly organized Project Manager to support the delivery of a large, multi-phase web application that will be rolled out across school districts statewide. This is not simply a task-tracking role. We’re looking for someone who takes full ownership of delivery: a proactive leader who learns every detail of the project, anticipates issues before they surface, and ensures nothing falls through the cracks. The right person will operate with high agency, solving problems independently and keeping both the client and internal teams aligned without needing constant oversight. You’ll partner closely with an existing project leader who is actively involved in UX design, development coordination, and high-level client communication and assurance. Your role is to run the day-to-day operations, keep communication and progress on track, and jump in to resolve fires and unexpected issues that arise from day to day. This role requires someone who thrives in fast-moving environments, is comfortable being the steady point of contact for clients, and understands web application development well enough to step in seamlessly. This role begins as a 12-week contract-to-hire engagement, with the intention to transition into a full-time position (salary + benefits + equipment) if it’s a strong mutual fit. We’re looking for someone who can step in quickly, operate with ownership, and grow into a long-term leadership role on the project. Contract-to-Hire Structure & Compensation Structure: 12-week contract-to-hire Time Commitment: Full-time (40 hours/week) Pay Rate: $40/hour Classification: 1099 during contract phase Work Environment: Fully remote Equipment: During the contract phase, contractors are expected to use their own equipment. Company-issued equipment is provided upon conversion to full-time employment. Schedule: Core availability during standard business hours Conversion: Strong performance during the contract phase may lead to a full-time offer with benefits Benefits: Should the role convert to full-time employment, full-time employees are eligible for a standard benefits package, including health, dental, vision, retirement, life insurance, and short- and long-term disability coverage. What You’ll Do Client Communication & Meeting Leadership Serve as a primary communication channel for clients (voice, video, and written). Lead and facilitate recurring meetings, standups, and project check-ins. Capture and distribute clear, accurate meeting notes, decisions, and action items. Proactively clarify requirements, timelines, and changes with clients and internal teams. Assess new feature and change requests for scope fit, effort, and timeline impact, and communicate clear guidance back to the client and internal team Ensure the client always feels informed, heard, and supported through proactive communication, not just reactive updates Anticipate client concerns and address them before they escalate Project Operations & Delivery Management Manage project timelines, milestones, dependencies, and critical paths. Update roadmaps, risk logs, and delivery plans. Keep stakeholders aligned on what’s done, what’s blocked, and what’s upcoming. Ensure decisions are documented and traceable. Resolves and/or escalates issues to appropriate levels in a timely manner. Take operational ownership of the project and continuously refine processes for clarity, efficiency, and predictability Proactively identify risks, gaps, and dependencies before they impact delivery Hold team members and vendors accountable to commitments and deadlines Think several steps ahead to prevent issues rather than just responding to them Quality Assurance & Issue Tracking Own QA coordination and issue flow, ensuring defects are validated, prioritized, resolved, and clearly communicated Organize bug/issue lists, validate reports, and coordinate retesting Follow issues through resolution and communicate updates to clients and vendors Ensure testing, fixes, and releases are handled in a structured, confidence-building manner for the client Vendor & Contractor Coordination Follow up with development teams, third-party vendors, and service providers. Manage escalations when something breaks, stalls, or needs immediate action. Keep everyone accountable and ensure turnaround times are met. Develops and manages third-party providers to ensure performance to goals and contractual compliance. General Problem-Solving & Support Step in wherever needed as project challenges arise. Help structure ambiguous tasks into clear workflows. Support the internal PM and leadership team with documentation, planning, and execution. Leads or assists in translating business needs into technology requirements. Bring solutions, not just problems: operate with independence and sound judgment Remain calm and structured when clients are frustrated or timelines tighten Step into ambiguous situations and create clarity without waiting for direction What You Bring Required Proven project management experience (5+ years) overseeing software or web application projects. Strong client-facing communication skills: comfortable leading calls, asking difficult questions, and providing clarity. Ability to own processes and keep a complex multi-team project moving forward. Strong technical fluency that allows you to follow architecture discussions, data flows, APIs, modules, and general development constraints. Able to speak the language of developers well enough to facilitate meaningful technical conversations and clarify scope, risk, and effort Comfortable translating between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders Working understanding of web technologies such as: PHP, SQL databases, Laravel, React/JS, HTML/CSS, hosting environments, and general modern web dev processes. You do not need to write code, but you must deeply understand the related concepts and workflows. Comfort coordinating contractors, vendors, and technical teams. Excellent communication, documentation, organization, and follow-through. Strong understanding of formal project management best practices (planning, risk management, dependency tracking, structured communication) Experience creating structure and order in complex, evolving environments Comfortable enforcing process and accountability across teams Nice to Have (Not Required) Experience with web application QA planning, execution, or triage workflows. The project is built on PHP/Laravel, so having a working understanding of that framework—and how it fits into a modern web application stack—will help you step in quickly. Experience in education, government, or multi-district web application rollouts. Familiarity with tools like Asana, Slack, Wrike, etc. Ideal Candidate Profile You are someone who: Takes ownership instead of waiting to be told what to do. Communicates clearly, calmly, and confidently. Can translate between clients, developers, and leadership. Has enough technical fluency to understand architecture discussions, data flows, APIs, modules, and development constraints. Thrives in a “figure it out as we go” environment as client needs and requests change. Wants to help drive a major project that directly impacts thousands of users statewide. Thinks critically and logically through challenges instead of escalating every issue upward Operates independently and does not require hand-holding or constant approval Is naturally proactive and stays three steps ahead of potential problems Takes pride in being the person who ensures nothing slips, and everyone stays aligned Engagement Details Contract-to-hire Remote work Availability during standard U.S. business hours Must be available for regular client calls Raborn Media is an equal opportunity employer.
