The New York City Comptroller’s Office works to promote the financial health, integrity, and effectiveness of New York City government, in order to strengthen trust, secure a thriving future for all New Yorkers, and build a more just, equitable, and resilient city. Led by an independently elected citywide official, the comptroller’s office provides checks and balances needed to hold City government accountable for budgeting wisely, investing responsibly, operating efficiently, acting fairly, living up to its obligations and promises, and paying attention to the long-term challenges we face together. The Comptroller’s Communications team disseminates information and reports produced by the Comptroller’s Office. It accomplishes that by responding to requests from journalists and by communicating to the public through the news media. Communications staff serve as the Comptroller’s official spokespeople and arrange press conferences and interviews. The Office prepares written communications, such as brochures, newsletters, and press releases, and prepares speeches and legislative testimony. The Office also designs and edits publicity material and policy statements released by the Office of the Comptroller. Responsibilities of the Communications intern include, but are not limited to: Social Monitoring: Track daily news and social media mentions relevant to the office; flag notable coverage, trends, or misinformation in a short daily or weekly digest. Content Drafting Support: Draft first-pass social media posts, short web blurbs, or newsletter items based on existing messaging and guidance. Research & Fact-Checking: Pull background info, stats, and source links to support press releases, op-eds, or social posts; verify accuracy before publication. Asset and Content Organization: Help maintain a shared content calendar and organize photos, graphics, quotes, and past statements in clearly labeled folders. Audience & Performance Tracking: Compile basic analytics (email open rates, social engagement, website traffic snapshots) and summarize what’s performing well. Perform other duties and assignments as may be required. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: Matriculation at an accredited college. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in college. This position is ideal for graduate students pursuing majors/minors in the fields of Media, Journalism, Political Science or related fields. Important Our office is located at the David Dinkins Municipal Building, 1 Centre St. in Manhattan/New York. All interns will work in-person in the office, Monday – Thursday, 28 hours per week. The employment period will be from June 1 – July 30, 2026. SUMMER GRADUATE INTERN - 10232 Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university or law school. Preferred Skills Interest and background in media relations, writing, video, and photo productions are essential.
