About The Position As the Controller at Next Net (our parent company), you’ll own and lead the company’s accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting and strong internal controls. Reporting to the CFO, you’ll be responsible for the integrity of the financials and the effectiveness of day-to-day accounting processes. This role involves managing and mentoring the accounting team, ensuring timely and accurate reporting, and maintaining financial control to safeguard assets. You'll also collaborate cross-functionally to improve reporting processes, develop forecasts, and align accounting practices with company goals. A Typical 'Day in the Life' as a Controller Might Look Like: 50% Managing the accounting department, overseeing daily operations, and ensuring all accounts are accurately reported and deadlines are met. 20% Ensuring compliance and preparing comprehensive financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including audit coordination. 10% Collaborating with senior leaders and the CFO to analyze historical performance, develop financial forecasts, and manage cash flow. 10% Maintaining and optimizing ERP systems and other financial tools, ensuring operational efficiency across all financial processes. 10% Streamlining accounting processes, improving reporting accuracy, and identifying opportunities for process enhancements. Your Key Responsibilities Oversee the daily accounting operations including AR, AP, general ledger, and financial reporting. Manage and improve the month-end close process to ensure timely and accurate reporting. Ensure compliance with all accounting standards and regulatory requirements. Lead the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. Partner with the CFO on cash flow management, budgeting, and forecasting. Maintain and enhance the ERP system and other financial tools for efficiency. Support the annual audit process and coordinate with external auditors. Develop and maintain internal controls and accounting policies to safeguard company assets. Prepare clear, accurate financial reports and variance analyses to support leadership decision-making. This is a full-time, on-site role located in Downtown St. Petersburg, FL. About You (Qualifications) Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred). 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience as an Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar role, with readiness to step into a Controller position. Demonstrated indpendent ownership of month-end close and financial reporting Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting best practices. Experience with NetSuite and other accounting software. Advanced proficiency in Excel (yes, we’ll probably ask about your favorite formula!). Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Demonstrated ability to lead a team and work cross-functionally. Experience in private equity-backed or multi-business environments is a plus. Strong communication skills -you’re able to break down complex financial data into digestible insights.
