As we continue to expand our retail property footprint, we are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager with deep expertise in multi‑unit retail or retail property accounting to strengthen our financial operations and support our next stage of growth. Job Summary The Accounting Manager - Retail Property Portfolio oversees the daily accounting operations for a diverse group of retail centers and multi‑unit locations. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, maintains strong internal controls, and supports both property‑level and enterprise‑level financial performance. You will lead a high‑performing accounting team, collaborate closely with operations and property management, and play a key role in driving financial clarity across a growing retail property portfolio. Essential Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Close Management Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for a multi‑unit retail property portfolio. Review financial statements for accuracy and GAAP compliance. Prepare property‑level and consolidated reporting packages, including variance analysis and operational insights. Ensure accurate consolidation of multi‑entity, multi‑location, and multi‑tenant transactions. General Ledger Oversight Oversee journal entries, accruals, inventory adjustments, allocations, and account reconciliations. Maintain balance sheet integrity across retail centers, including fixed assets, prepaid expenses, intercompany activity, and inventory. Establish and enforce accounting policies and internal controls tailored to retail and property‑management environments. Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Analysis Partner with retail operations and property management teams on annual budgets and rolling forecasts. Analyze variances in sales, COGS, labor, occupancy costs, and operating expenses. Provide actionable insights to improve profitability, margin performance, and property‑level KPIs. Support analysis related to inventory turnover, shrink reduction, and tenant‑related financial impacts. Compliance, Audit & Risk Management Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and federal/state/local regulations. Coordinate internal and external audits, including schedules, documentation, and responses. Support sales & use tax, property tax, and retail‑specific compliance requirements. Identify risks and control gaps; recommend and implement corrective actions. Team Leadership & Development Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff, ensuring clear expectations and accountability. Manage workload planning, performance reviews, and professional development. Foster a collaborative, high‑performance culture focused on accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement. Support hiring, onboarding, and training as the organization grows. Systems, Process Improvement & Automation Evaluate and enhance accounting processes for scalability across a multi‑unit retail property portfolio. Lead or support system upgrades, automation initiatives, POS integrations, and new location onboarding. Develop and maintain SOPs to ensure consistency and operational alignment. Partner with Operations, Payroll, HR, and IT to streamline workflows and improve data integrity. Cross‑Functional & Strategic Support Serve as a key liaison to retail operations and property management leadership. Lead lender communications and coordinate monthly financial distributions. Support ownership with property‑level accounting questions, cash needs, and audit requirements. Contribute to special projects including acquisitions, new store openings, and system implementations. Assist the Director of Accounting with departmental planning and strategic initiatives. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred). 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years in a supervisory role. Experience in retail, retail property management, or multi‑unit operations strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting. Proficiency with accounting systems such as Yardi Voyager 7S, RealPage, Oracle NetSuite, or similar platforms. Advanced Excel skills. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication abilities. Preferred Competencies Proven leadership and team development experience. High attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, multi‑unit environment. Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills. Experience with POS integrations, inventory systems, or retail operational workflows is a plus.
