Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Draft, edit, and distribute District newsletters, press releases, website content, and social media posts consistent with District branding and style guidelines.
  • Manage the day-to-day content calendar and posting schedule across District social media platforms.
  • Monitor social media, local news outlets, and community forums for District-related coverage; flag emerging issues to the Assistant Director of Communications.
  • Coordinate photography and videography coverage of District and school events; maintain a digital asset library of photos, logos, templates, and brand guidelines.
  • Design and produce flyers, brochures, signage, and other collateral materials using standard graphic design and multimedia tools.
  • Maintain and update District and school website content in coordination with site and department staff.
  • Assist in coordinating translation and interpretation services to support multilingual communications and language-access requirements.
  • Support planning and logistics for community engagement events, Board meetings, press events, and District ceremonies.
  • Respond to routine public and media inquiries; route non-routine or sensitive inquiries to the Assistant Director of Communications.
  • Assist in maintaining District mass notification and emergency communication systems, including distribution lists.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma.
  • Two years of experience in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
  • Additional years of directly related experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. There will be no substitution for the required experience.
  • Valid California driver's license with a driving record which meets the insurance requirements of the Vallejo City Unified School District.

Preferred

  • An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, graphic design, or a related field is preferred.
  • Basic graphic design and multimedia production tools experience (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or comparable software)
  • AP style writing conventions familiarity.
