Responsibilities

  • Strategy and senior stakeholder counsel: Lead the development and implementation of PR and communications strategies for aligned sectors and practices, ensuring activity supports the firm’s business priorities and growth ambitions.
  • Act as a trusted adviser to partners, sector and practice leaders and senior business services stakeholders, providing clear and commercially focused communications counsel.
  • Translate complex business, legal and market issues into compelling communications opportunities and clear, accessible narratives.
  • Media relations and profile-raising: Lead proactive media engagement for aligned sectors and practices, ensuring Fieldfisher’s experts have a credible voice on the issues that matter to clients and prospects.
  • Build and maintain influential relationships with journalists across legal, national, international and trade media.
  • Identify and develop strong stories from client work, market developments, research, business milestones and the expertise of the firm’s people.
  • Secure and manage interviews, brief spokespeople and coach lawyers on media techniques and effective engagement with journalists.
  • Lead or oversee compelling award entries, legal directory submissions and contributions to league tables and rankings, applying sound judgement about the opportunities that best support strategic priorities.
  • Advise on sensitive media enquiries and support the firm’s response to reputational issues, working closely with the Director of BD and Marketing, PR & Communications Lead and other senior colleagues where appropriate.
  • Content and integrated campaigns: Develop creative, integrated communications for campaigns and projects in partnership with business development, marketing, digital and international colleagues.

Requirements

  • At least eight years’ relevant PR and communications experience gained in-house, in an agency or through a combination of both.
  • A strong record of developing and delivering successful communications strategies and integrated content campaigns that support business objectives and produce tangible outcomes.
  • Well-established media relations skills, with evidence of building productive relationships with journalists and securing high-quality national, legal, trade or sector coverage.
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, with the ability to make complex issues clear and compelling and adapt content for different styles, audiences and channels.
  • Strong judgement and experience advising senior stakeholders on media, profile and reputation matters, including the confidence to challenge constructively when required.
  • Experience of handling sensitive or fast-moving communications issues and remaining composed, accurate and focused under pressure.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands, lead multiple workstreams and manage agencies or other third parties effectively.
  • Experience of coaching spokespeople and working across different media formats, including digital, video and broadcast.
  • A collaborative and influential working style, with the ability to build trusted relationships across functions, seniority levels, offices and jurisdictions.
  • Experience of supporting the development of colleagues, sharing best practice and raising standards across a team.

Preferred

  • Experience within a law firm or other professional services organisation is highly desirable; relevant experience in another complex, regulated or business-to-business environment will also be considered.
