IMPORTANT NOTES

COMS 310 – Media and Feminist Studies (3 credits – CRN 2382)

Salary: $11,824

Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs):

  • Ph.D. or ABD Ph.D. candidate in Communication Studies.
  • Previous scholarly training or research experience in media and feminist studies.

Course description: Communication Studies: Introduction to feminist studies of the media. Impact of feminist and queer theory on media studies; current issues about gender in the media. Emphasis will be placed on critical analysis of media representations of gender in relation to other social differences, such as race, class and sexuality.

Course Schedule: August 31 to December 4, 2026, on Wednesdays and Fridays from 11:35 am to 12:55 am.

Exigences de qualifications pour l’enseignement (EQE) :

  • Candidat au doctorat ou au doctorat ABD en études de la communication.
  • Expérience de formation universitaire ou de recherche en études des médias et en études féministes.
  • Description du cours : Introduction aux approches féministes de l’étude des médias. Analyse de l’impact des théories féministes et queer sur les études médiatiques ainsi que des enjeux contemporains liés au genre dans les médias. L’accent sera mis sur l’analyse critique des représentations médiatiques du genre en relation avec d’autres différences sociales, notamment la race, la classe sociale et la sexualité.

Horaire du cours: du 31 août au 4 décembre 2026, les mercredis et les vendredis de 11 h 35 à 12 h 55.
