A well run campaign depends on the work people rarely notice: a clear brief before customer activity begins, accurate information when plans change and someone following through on an unresolved issue. At Sage Associates, a Business Management Trainee learns how those everyday details affect both the customer experience and the team's results.
This could be a useful next move if you have worked in retail, hospitality or another customer facing setting and want to build on the organisational skills you already use. You will be involved in direct sales activity while learning the coordination behind an in person customer acquisition business. Previous management experience is not essential.
Before customer activity begins
Preparation starts with understanding the campaign's priorities. You will learn to work from the brief, check the information you need and raise questions before they become problems during a customer conversation. As you become more experienced, you can help colleagues understand changes and contribute to team briefings.
The practical skill is knowing what needs attention first. An unclear offer needs checking; a missing update needs communicating. You will learn to distinguish something you can resolve yourself from a decision that belongs with an experienced manager.
Good preparation also means being ready for your own customer work. Operational understanding develops through participating in the campaign, not watching other people deliver it.
While the campaign is running
You will represent client services in person, speak with prospective customers and work towards agreed sales objectives. Conversations should establish what someone needs before you explain the offer. Where the service is appropriate and the customer wishes to proceed, you will follow the required acquisition process carefully.
Alongside your own activity, pay attention to what affects delivery. Are the same questions coming up repeatedly? Is an instruction unclear? Does a customer issue need passing on? Useful observations give the team something specific to address.
You are not expected to arrive knowing every answer. You are expected to communicate honestly, use the guidance provided and avoid allowing an uncertainty to become an inaccurate promise.
Bringing the day together
Campaign information needs to be recorded while it is still clear. You will help maintain accurate activity records and contribute updates that explain what happened, including issues that need further attention.
Reviewing performance is part of the job. With support, you will learn how customer outcomes relate to the way the campaign was organised and delivered. Where an improvement is agreed, your responsibility is to apply it and report what you observe, rather than suggest changes and forget about them.
Over time, development can include assisting with the organisation of team activity and supporting colleagues as they learn the campaign. Broader involvement follows demonstrated competence. The trainee title does not give you immediate authority over other people's work.
Useful habits matter here
We would like to hear about situations in which you have:
These examples do not have to come from a formal supervisory role. Experience gained through study or volunteering can be relevant too. You should be comfortable starting conversations, working to measurable objectives and receiving practical feedback. Careful written communication is important for records and updates.
Sage Associates provides structured training in business development and operations, with mentorship from experienced leaders. The opportunity is to understand how daily campaign work connects to wider business performance. As your capability develops, you can be considered for additional responsibility in coordination and team support. Progression depends on performance and an appropriate opportunity within the business.
The working arrangement
The role is full time and on site, Monday to Friday. Starting base pay is £25,000 annually, with scope for negotiation and additional performance bonuses. The first year OTE is £45,000 including the base salary; variable earnings depend on results. This is an active customer facing role, so being organised behind a desk is only one part of the skill set.
Apply with a CV that shows what you have been responsible for, even if your previous job title was not managerial. Include your availability to start. A clear example of keeping work organised under pressure will help us understand the experience you could bring.
