Job Summary

Own and deliver the HSSA Topic Programme instruction, coordinating classroom delivery, assessment, and feedback to US high school learners while collaborating with Centre staff to ensure a positive participant experience.

  • Curriculum delivery and day-to-day instruction across the 45+ hours, including planning each lesson and providing timely feedback.
  • Student assessment and feedback management, including Can Do self-assessments and weekly input of grades in Canvas.
  • Collaboration and program quality: participate in live workshops, communicate with Centre staff, and help improve curriculum through feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Complete the online, asynchronous HSSA Topic Programme Instructor Training in Canvas (estimated completion time of 6-8 hours), scheduled to begin in early April.
  • Participate in the HSSA Topic Instructor Live Virtual Workshops (estimated 1-2 hours total), which will be held via Zoom for all Topic Instructors. The US-based CIEE High School Outbound team will send further details via email in March/April.
  • Prepare the on-programme Canvas course.
  • Deliver 45+ hours of instruction on the programme and plan for each day’s lesson.
  • Post and collect student responses to “Can Do” statements at the beginning and end of the programme. This is a self-assessment, and instructors do not provide feedback.
  • Provide students with timely, informative feedback on assignments. Types of feedback may include verbal feedback, written feedback, and rubric-based feedback.
  • While students do not receive academic credit for Topic programmes, they may receive an unofficial letter or numerical grade that is an indicator of performance.
  • Monitor students’ completion of the final project on an ongoing basis to ensure that students are working on their projects over the course.
  • Instructors enter student grades and/or feedback in Canvas each week.
  • Participate as needed in meetings with CIEE Centre staff while the programme is in session to report on any student concerns and ensure learning objectives are met.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience teaching management and marketing with emphasis on sports.
  • Master’s degree required, and PhD preferred.
  • Experience teaching and/or working with US High School students (ages 14–18) preferred.
  • A track record of using experiential teaching methods preferred.
  • Site-specific cultural and contextual knowledge preferred.
  • Experience working with an LMS (e.g., Canvas) preferred.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills and a desire to work with high school students.
  • Ability and willingness to work as a productive member of a team with the collective goal of creating positive participant experiences.
  • Ability to accept, apply, as well as give feedback in a professional manner.
  • Outstanding intercultural communications skills.
  • Candidates must be able to provide proof that they can work full-time in the UK.

Preferred
