Job Summary

Own the national growth strategy for sailing participation across three pillars, with ownership of a 3-person team and cross-regional delivery.

  • Growth Infrastructure: Align budgets and resources across national programmes, regions, and partners to drive participation growth.
  • Network Leadership: Coordinate across clubs, training centres, affiliates, regions, and funders to scale reach.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Growth Infrastructure: Own the national budget and resource allocation to drive participation across Active Habits, Next Generation, and the Future Ready Network.
  • Network Leadership: Galvanise the national delivery network of clubs, training centres, affiliates, regions, and partners to scale participation.
  • People & Partners: Inspire and manage a team of 3 direct reports while engaging stakeholders to align resources and champion growth.
  • Investment Oversight: Direct strategic deployment of funds across national programmes, regions, and Sailability to maximize impact.
  • Collaboration & Influence: Partner with affiliates, funders, RYA departments, and committees to advance the growth agenda.

Requirements

  • A Proven Leader: Significant senior leadership experience in sport, physical activity, membership, network development, or a comparable growth-focused environment.
  • A Strategic Executor: Track record of owning and delivering strategic plans with measurable targets and robust performance frameworks.
  • A Matrix Manager: Experience leading through multi-layered teams, including senior managers, regional delivery teams, and specialists.
  • A Portfolio Master: Oversaw a broad portfolio of programmes or services, aligning resources to key priorities.
  • A Network Builder: Strong across partners, volunteers, regions, or networked delivery systems to achieve high-impact outcomes.
  • Data-Driven: Use insight, data, and evaluation to shape strategy, improve delivery, and demonstrate impact.
  • An Inclusion Champion: Proven track record of delivering inclusive growth or improving retention in a relevant context.
  • Qualified & Ready: Holds a relevant degree or professional qualification (or equivalent senior leadership experience), valid driving licence, and willing to travel nationally.
