Job Summary

Take ownership of the editorial lifecycle from drafting to publication, ensuring clear, useful content for trade business owners, while managing weekly LinkedIn activity and newsletter assembly.

  • Edit and quality-check content before publishing
  • Lead LinkedIn planning, publishing, and engagement reporting
  • Assemble and review each newsletter issue for performance

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Edit everything before it goes out. Posts, newsletter issues and articles come to you before they are published. You read them as the reader would: a business owner with three vans and no time. Is it true? Is it useful? Does it sound like a person? If not, you fix it or send it back.
  • Write. Headlines, openings, captions, the last line. Short, plain, British. Some pieces you will write yourself from scratch.
  • Run LinkedIn. Plan the week, publish, reply to comments, and tell us each week what worked and what did not.
  • Put the newsletter together. Assemble each issue, edit it, send it, and read the numbers afterwards.
  • Bring us the topics. Notice what trade business owners are talking about, on LinkedIn, in the trade press, among the people you know, and turn it into ideas for the next pieces.

Requirements

  • You write well. Short sentences, clear ideas, no filler. You can show us something you have written that people actually read: a blog, a newsletter, a page you ran, a piece for college. It does not need to be professional. It needs to be good.
  • You know social media from the inside. You have run an account, a page or a community, even a small one, and you can explain why one post worked and another did not.
  • You are interested in how a trade business works. Who the owner is, what keeps them up at night, why an apprentice leaves. If you come from a trades family, have worked in the sector or know people in it, that counts more than a marketing degree.
  • You are precise. You check a figure before you publish it. You notice when a sentence says nothing.
  • You are comfortable with a computer and the usual tools. Email, documents, a scheduling tool, Canva or similar.

Preferred

  • Basic knowledge of AI writing tools. Experience with a company LinkedIn page or a newsletter.

Benefits

  • WHAT YOU GET *A real job with real output from week one. You learn how a small company sells to a hard market and how a newsletter and a LinkedIn page are actually run. Direct work with the CMO, no layers. A clear conversation at the end about a permanent role if it works for both sides.
