Job Summary

Own editorial storytelling across Sunderland AFC’s owned channels with a focus on Men’s, Women’s and Academy teams, while upholding a consistent tone in a fast paced elite sports setting.

  • Content Production: Own written output for the website, matchday programme, social channels and digital publications.
  • Story Development: Create engaging stories that strengthen connections with supporters across all teams.
  • Standards & Direction: Maintain editorial standards, tone of voice, and creative direction while reporting to the Content Manager.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Lead on written output across the club’s owned platforms, including the official website, matchday programme, social channels and wider digital publications
  • Produce compelling written and editorial content that strengthens the connection between the club and its supporters
  • Report to the Content Manager
  • Develop engaging stories around Sunderland AFC’s Men’s, Women’s and Academy teams
  • Maintain the club’s editorial standards, tone of voice and creative direction
  • Work in a fast-paced elite sporting environment

Requirements

  • At least 3 years’ experience in editorial, journalism, or digital publishing
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Experience creating engaging content for various platforms
  • Knowledge of CMS, SEO, analytics, and digital best practices
  • Excellent organisational skills, the ability to work under pressure, and experience in live sporting environments
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and matchdays
  • Enhanced DBS through SAFC

Preferred

  • Desirable qualifications include media or journalism accreditation
  • Experience in sports content creation
