Job Description
About Us
Speek Health is on a mission to end the wait for life-saving mental healthcare. We are building a digital treatment for young people aged 12–25 with complex mental health needs, and for their families. We work with NHS trusts to reach families earlier and support them through some of the hardest moments they'll face. Our team brings deep professional expertise and, for many of us, personal experience of caring for someone we love through a mental health crisis. Together, we're changing how families get the help they need.
About You
This is a great fit if you want to…
Make an impact: Contribute to a service that delivers a meaningful and measurable impact on family mental health, directly improving well-being for children and young people by providing access to evidence-based support and fostering a compassionate community.
Build something from the ground up: Join an early-stage, mission-driven company where you'll have the unique opportunity to build a content and learning design strategy and framework from the ground up, directly shaping our brand and future direction.
Flexible working: We work flexibly, but we value human connection and meet twice a week to co-work in central London
Feel like you belong: Our team members come from a widely diverse range of backgrounds and experiences. We are building a culture of kindness, inclusivity and excellence.
You're an experienced writer and content maker who thrives in early-stage environments. You've seen chaos, you know how to wrangle it, and you have the portfolio to prove it. Words are your foundation. You can set a tone of voice and then carry it everywhere, from a single line of onboarding copy to a full learning module to a social post. You use AI tools every day to turn ideas into visuals, video and audio at pace, and you have the taste to know when something isn't good enough yet. Your quality standards are high, especially when you're writing for young people and families going through something hard, but your two favourite words are still "ship it". You'll earn major bonus points if you've written inside a product before, or if you've made content that helps people learn and change.
You must
- Have 5+ years of professional experience in content design, UX writing, copywriting, or learning/instructional design
- Provide a portfolio with concrete examples of your work, ideally including product or in-app copy and creative work you've produced with AI tools
- Have a genuine interest in mental health and well-being
- Use AI tools confidently, day to day, to produce visual, video, audio and written content at pace, with the judgement to know when the output isn't good enough
- Have exceptional written communication skills and a keen eye for detail and grammar
- Be able to translate complex clinical concepts into clear, warm, age-appropriate language for young people, families and clinicians
- Show a strong interest in producing diverse content types, including product copy, learning materials, customer communications and marketing content
- Have experience in applying learning design principles
- Have strong project management skills, including building and maintaining a content calendar, managing workflows and consistently meeting deadlines
- Be able to work independently and manage multiple projects at once in a fast-paced environment
- Be able to analyse content performance data and use it to improve content
- Have experience creating content or programmes in the mental health or well-being sector
Bonus points, but not necessary
- Experience creating content for teens or young adults
- Experience writing for health or other regulated digital products
- Experience designing content for high-risk or safety-critical moments (e.g. crisis flows, safeguarding, trust and safety)
- Familiarity with accessibility guidelines (e.g. WCAG)
- Understanding of SEO principles
- Experience with Runway, Midjourney, ElevenLabs or similar tools
What the role involves
- Establish and maintain Speek's tone of voice and style guidelines for young people aged 12–25, their families and our NHS partners, as the foundation for everything we write
- Own in-app copy across our products, including onboarding, microcopy, notifications and in-app messaging, working closely with our product and engineering team
- Design and develop engaging learning content for our mental health programmes, supported and reviewed by our clinical experts
- Produce creative assets (visual, video and audio) using AI tools, and bring in specialist freelancers where a project needs it
- Plan and manage our social media channels, and repurpose content across formats
- Write and maintain our website copy, applying SEO best practice
- Optimise customer communications throughout the digital journey and at clinician touchpoints
- Make sure all content follows safe messaging practice, goes through clinical sign-off, and stays consistent with how our products are described and regulated
- Build a reusable content design system for Speek: patterns and guidelines for how we write for sensitive moments such as crisis signposting, risk, safeguarding and consent, so the product speaks consistently and safely wherever young people meet it
- Run user testing and gather feedback to refine content
- Set and track KPIs to measure content effectiveness
- Establish content workflows and tools, and manage multiple projects to deadline
What we offer
Annual salary of £55–65k
Equity options grant
Hybrid working, with two days a week together in central London.
