Help shape the future of energy advocacy
At Citizens Advice, we are the statutory advocate for energy consumers. Every day, we use insights from the people who contact our advice service to understand the challenges facing consumers. We turn that evidence into action by influencing industry, shaping policy and regulation, and helping people navigate the energy market with confidence.
We're looking for a Senior Energy Process Officer to help our Energy team work smarter, faster and more effectively. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys improving processes, identifying opportunities for innovation, and bringing fresh ideas from across sectors into a high-impact organisation.
About the role
As our Senior Energy Process Officer, you'll play a key role in driving continuous improvement across the Energy team. You'll identify better ways of working, introduce new processes and technologies, and help ensure our advocacy and advice functions remain agile and effective.
You'll act as the team's early warning system, keeping an eye on emerging trends, policy developments, new technologies and organisational best practice. You'll build relationships across Citizens Advice and externally, translating learning and opportunities into practical improvements that strengthen how we deliver our work.
About you
We're looking for someone who:
Has experience in policy, regulation, the energy sector, or a similar environment.
Has a strong track record of improving processes, ways of working, or organisational effectiveness.
Understands how high-performing organisations operate and can apply best practice in a new context.
Is confident introducing new initiatives, systems or technologies that improve efficiency and impact.
Has excellent stakeholder management skills and enjoys working collaboratively across teams.
Is proactive, curious and skilled at spotting emerging opportunities and risks.
Ideally has knowledge of the energy sector and how its different parts interact.
Application
Please provide details in your cover letter to evidence the following essential criteria. Please make sure your cover letter provides evidence for the essential criteria succinctly.
- A thorough working knowledge of, and active interest in, developments, processes, emerging technologies and organisational design, both in terms of their potential impact on the public, and/or the potential for us to improve or adapt our internal ways of working, from information gathering to reporting to driving efficiency.
- Proven ability to think critically, creatively, and pragmatically about opportunities to support customers via both big picture and detailed implementation levels to identify authentic, empowering solutions. Evidence of entrepreneurial spirit - spotting and developing new initiatives and ideas others miss, via active engagement with external events, relevant reports and outputs and relevant organisations across energy, charity and public sector.
- Excellent analytical/research skills, with a demonstrated ability to tackle complex problems.

Central to pursuing our EDI mission is building diverse and inclusive teams in which everyone has a sense of belonging. We believe inclusion is a social justice issue - a principle that underpins our all EDI work. To that end, we particularly welcome applications from people we would like to see better represented in our organisation and sector - people of colour, LGBTQ+ people and disabled people. We follow the social model of disability. We will offer an interview to disabled candidates who indicate they wish their application to be considered under our Disability Confident Interview Commitment where they meet our selection criteria in their application. Some of our roles attract a high volume of applications and in some circumstances where it is not practicable or appropriate, we may limit the number of interviews offered to disabled and non-disabled candidates. We will provide reasonable adjustments as needed.
We’re a flexible employer, so this role may suit anyone who’d prefer a flexible arrangement to help their work/life balance, many of our colleagues spend most of their time working remotely. Whilst we prefer a blended approach between a local office, if one is near you, and home we’re open to being flexible on location, occasionally a role may require you to be based in a certain location if that's the case it will be detailed in the advert or job description. This can be discussed in more detail during your interview.
