Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of BBC News YouTube channels, ensuring content is published, scheduled and optimised to maximise audience reach and engagement.
  • Work closely with journalists, producers and editors to package content for YouTube, including titles, descriptions, thumbnails and playlists that drive audience growth.
  • Use audience insights and performance data to inform publishing decisions, improve content performance and identify opportunities for growth.
  • Support major news coverage by ensuring content is published quickly, accurately and effectively for YouTube audiences.
  • Identify opportunities to adapt and repurpose BBC News journalism into YouTube-native content and formats.
  • Champion YouTube best practice across BBC News, sharing platform expertise and audience insights with colleagues.
  • Test and evaluate new publishing strategies, formats and audience-development approaches to support long-term channel growth.

Requirements

  • Proven experience managing and growing a YouTube channel for a publisher, news organisation, brand or creator.
  • Strong understanding of YouTube audience behaviours, discovery systems, content optimisation and platform best practice.
  • Experience packaging video content for YouTube, including writing effective titles, descriptions and thumbnail briefs.
  • Ability to use analytics, performance data and audience insights to evaluate content and improve reach, engagement and audience loyalty.
  • Strong editorial judgement and experience working within a fast-paced editorial, digital or content production environment.

Preferred

  • Experience working within a newsroom, news publisher or current affairs environment.
  • Knowledge of audience development strategies and social video publishing across multiple platforms.
  • Experience supporting live streams, breaking news coverage or major planned events.
  • Understanding of YouTube monetisation, channel strategy and emerging platform trends.
  • Experience presenting audience insights and recommendations to stakeholders and editorial teams.
