Job Summary

Own the sustainability communications and engagement agenda at a university scale, shaping campaigns and sector visibility while driving behaviour change and cross-campus partnerships.

  • Lead strategic planning and delivery across campaigns, messaging and multichannel channels to deliver credible, visible sustainability impact.
  • Manage the Sustainability Communications & Engagement Coordinator and deputize for the Head of Sustainability, operating with high autonomy in a complex environment.
  • Oversee governance reporting to senior stakeholders and ensure consistent brand, audience segmentation, and cross-team alignment.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic planning and delivery of sustainability communications and engagement, driving behaviour change and cross-campus partnerships for credible, visible impact.
  • Line-manage the Sustainability Communications & Engagement Coordinator and deputize for the Head of Sustainability, exercising autonomy across a complex institution.
  • Oversee multi-channel campaigns and governance reporting to senior stakeholders, ensuring consistency of brand and audience segmentation.

Requirements

  • Substantial experience in strategic communications or engagement, leading campaigns at senior levels, preferably in sustainability, higher education, or public sector.
  • Experience line-managing staff and developing people while maintaining high output standards.
  • Strong stakeholder management with confidence engaging senior audiences and building institutional partnerships.
  • Experience overseeing multi-channel communications (web, social, newsletters, events) with brand consistency and audience segmentation.
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets, track KPIs and produce evidence-based reports for senior governance bodies.
  • Strategic mindset with practical delivery capability to set direction and land programmes effectively.
  • Genuine commitment to sustainability and understanding of behaviour change in a university or similarly complex environment.
