Job Summary

Own or shape the core communications footprint for the ME charity by leading a small team and driving an integrated, audience-led plan across media, social, and stakeholder networks.

  • Leadership: drive the communications strategy, manage two staff, and oversee budget and external partners.
  • Cross-functional storytelling: partner with fundraising, policy, research, and services to maximize visibility and calls to action for donations and membership.
  • Operations and governance: maintain data insights, report to Extended Leadership Team, and ensure brand, crisis, and media systems are in place.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day delivery of the communications strategy, and manage a team of two other communications staff.
  • Work with colleagues across fundraising, policy, research and services departments delivering storytelling and maximizing visibility across media, digital platforms and key stakeholder networks.
  • Leadership and Management: ensure ME people are at the heart of communications and marketing; contribute to development and implementation of the Communications Strategy; maintain data-insight reports; be a member of Extended Leadership Team; line manage team; manage budget and relationships with services providers.
  • Communications and Marketing: raise the profile of the impact of ME and Action for ME; establish a regular cadence of content across social media channels; embed calls to action around donations and membership growth; develop website, press and social media content for appeals; market Support and Healthcare services; contribute to income generation with the Fundraising Director; coordinate crisis communications; establish systems for gathering case studies; draft and issue press releases; build relationships with press and media; oversee annual report; oversee digital engagement; ensure brand compliance; maintain media monitoring; build networks for strategic communications and marketing; manage engagement with ME community and professionals.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a communications management role
  • Experience of developing integrated, insight and audience-led communications plans including social media
  • Experience of website and brand management
  • Experience of delivering successful campaigns
  • Experience of engaging with press and/or media including writing press releases and media briefings
  • Experience of working collaboratively with different teams/departments
  • Strong MS Office skills including the ability to use Word, Excel, databases and web-related programmes and software

Preferred

  • Understanding of ME and its impact (desirable)
  • Experience of integrating fundraising with communications (desirable)
  • Experience of charity communications (desirable)
