Job Summary

Own a focused communications engine for ME with cross‑functional storytelling, media visibility, and stakeholder engagement at its core.

  • Lead strategy delivery, team coaching and KPI reporting to keep campaigns tight and measurable.
  • Coordinate across fundraising, policy, research and services to ensure authentic ME centric storytelling and wider reach.
  • Ensure crisis readiness, leadership involvement, and strong media relations to drive awareness and support needs.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day delivery of the communications strategy and supervise two other communications staff.
  • Work with colleagues across fundraising, policy, research and services to deliver clear and compelling storytelling and maximise visibility across media, digital platforms and stakeholder networks.
  • Ensure people with ME are at the heart of communications and marketing through meaningful engagement.
  • Develop and implement the Communications Strategy with stakeholder involvement, scoping, evaluating and improving practice.
  • Maintain a data-insight led approach with regular management information and KPI reports.
  • Be a member of the Extended Leadership Team.
  • Line manage Communications Team members, set and achieve performance objectives, conduct 12-month appraisals, and manage the budget and supplier relationships for production of information and resources.
  • Raise the profile of ME and Action for ME to reach more people and support need via regular, innovative content across social channels.
  • Embed fundraising calls to action across communications to support donations and membership growth.
  • Develop all website, press, and social media content for appeals under direction of the Director of Fundraising.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a communications management role
  • Experience of developing integrated, insight and audience-led communications plans including social media
  • Experience of website and brand management
  • Experience of delivering successful campaigns
  • Experience of engaging with press and/or media including writing press releases and media briefings
  • Experience of working collaboratively with different teams/departments
  • Experience of working in charity communications (desirable)
  • An understanding of ME and the impact on people affected by it (desirable)
  • Experience of integrating fundraising with communications (desirable)
  • Strong MS Office skills including the ability to use Word, Excel, databases and web-related programmes and software
