We are looking to recruit a Assistant Curator-Visual Media and Archives to join our team based at our London site. You will join us on a full time, permanent basis. In return, you will receive asalary of £26,851.50 per annum.

What we are looking for in the Assistant Curator-Visual Media and Archives role:

The Royal Air Force Museum is recruiting for the role of Assistant Curator- Visual Media and Archives based at our London site and working across our Visual Media and Archive collections. This will be a permanent appointment.

This is a key role within the Collections and Research team. You will report to the Curator of Photographs and work closely with the wider Curatorial and Exhibition teams on projects across all our sites.

Amongst other responsibilities you will document, catalogue and research the Collections; answer requests for information received from Museum colleagues and external enquirers; support the development of content for use in our exhibitions and create content for our audiences.

The post is based at our London site.

You will be expected to travel between sites and to other locations, as and when the role requires it.

Key responsibilities of the Assistant Curator-Visual Media and Archives role:

• Facilitate access to the collections and information relating to and contained within them according to Department policies and procedures
• Answer requests for information received from Museum colleagues, visiting researchers and external enquirers within agreed timeframes
• Assist in caring for the Museum’s collections as directed and in accordance with Museum policies and procedures as well as sector best practice guidelines
• Assist as directed in developing the collections through the acquisition and disposal of material and liaison with stakeholders
• Supervise volunteers as required
• Collect data and provide reports both in writing and through presentations and discussion as required

Person Specification:

• High level of knowledge related to Museum’s Collection practice and administration gained through employment or a relevant qualification
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Displays enthusiasm around activities, adopting a positive approach when interacting with others and motivating team members
• Uses experience and knowledge of standard practices, procedures or customs to evaluate problems and make appropriate decisions/provide appropriate advice
• Is able to deal with unfamiliar situations or issues in an effective manner, understanding when a situation requires reference to a relevant individual
• Is receptive and/or pro-actively identifies and contributes to new ideas and approaches, and adapts accordingly
