Bookmark Reading Charity

We’re Bookmark Reading Charity, a literacy charity with a simple vision: we want every child to read. We improve children’s literacy by promoting a reading for pleasure culture in primary schools, with a focus on supporting children in the most disadvantaged communities. Our work combines the power of volunteers with high-quality literacy programmes and book provision, so children can build both skills and a love of reading. Volunteers are at the heart of what we do. Through our reading programme, trained volunteers provide one-to-one reading support to children who need it most - helping them grow in confidence, improve reading skills and enjoy learning. Alongside this, we deliver a range of programmes that support schools in different ways, including our Literacy Partner Programme, Roots to Reading (formerly Your Story Corner) and Story Starter Programme. From long-term, whole-school support to gifting brand-new books and creating inclusive reading spaces, our work helps children develop both the skills and the joy of reading - with 99% of schools reporting that Roots to Reading made a positive difference to children’s reading enjoyment. Together, our volunteers, partners and supporters help change children’s stories - in school and beyond.
