Job Summary

Job Description

Responsibilities

Collaborate with Hola Cultura staff, SPEL Fellows, and Interns to promote multimedia stories and special projects.
Lead a team in executing our communications plan and developing a social media strategy to increase follower engagement and boost visibility for the Hola Cultura website.
In addition to the weekly Tuesday meeting, attend any necessary check-ins with Fellows, the Social Media Analytics team, and the Social Media Manager to review and assess progress throughout the semester.
Work independently to strengthen your skills, with support and mentorship from Hola Cultura’s professional staff.
Develop clear guidelines or instructions to help interns complete their tasks effectively.
Facilitate brainstorming sessions and encourage interns to contribute creative ideas and take initiative.
Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

Requirements

Availability for weekly online meetings every Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time (only two excused absences allowed).
Prior experience in social media management, especially for news publications (required).
Strong communication and collaboration skills - essential for remote work.
Excellent writing skills for copywriting and content creation.
Creative, proactive mindset with the ability to bring fresh ideas and think outside the box.
Leadership experience - must be able to guide and support interns in their professional development and decision-making.
Cultural competency and sensitivity in storytelling, especially when representing the Latine community.
Ability to maintain a consistent brand voice, tone, and visual style across platforms.
Strong organizational skills - able to prioritize and manage multiple assignments under deadlines.
Good judgment, attention to detail, and commitment to professional ethics.

Preferred

Bachelor's or graduate degree in Graphic Design, Marketing, Media Studies, Communications, or a related field
Experience with journalistic and nonprofit storytelling
Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills
Familiarity with design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar platforms

Hola Cultura is a nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C., that serves as a bridge between the area’s Latino and non-Latinx communities, covering topics bilingually that affect D.C. residents’ everyday lives — from arts and humanities to the coronavirus pandemic. The organization got its start in 2011 as an innovative series of artistic mini-documentaries featuring D.C.’s Latino arts, humanities and creative class. It’s the brainchild of Alberto Roblest, an award-winning artist, author, and educator. Since those early days, we’ve kept on growing—publishing more than 1,000 articles, interviews, videos, and other media, as well as walking tours, festivals and other special events with the help of our talented youth and adults volunteer contributors. Together, we’re building an online archive.
