Mountain Rescue England and Wales

There are 47 volunteer mountain rescue teams and eight regional bodies in England and Wales, across eight geographical areas: Lake District, Mid Pennine, North East, Peak District, Peninsula (that's Devon and Cornwall), Yorkshire Dales, North Wales and South Wales. There are also two associate teams, in south west England and strong connections and overlaps with Cave Rescue team. Mountain Rescue England and Wales exists as a representative body to help them deliver the best possible care to their casualties and to have the strongest voice in discussions with stakeholders.Team members are on call, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to recover stuck climbers, reunite lost walkers with their pals and ensure injured and sick casualties are safely delivered into vital hospital care. They also help search for missing children and vulnerable adults, on and off the hills and search river banks and wade chest-deep through flooded urban streets aiding swimmers, kayakers and devastated homeowners. All this whilst continuing to practise their skills, maintaining their bases, kit and vehicles and fundraising to support heir service. Oh, and did we mention they’re all volunteers? Mountain rescue. So much more than mountains.
