Founded in 1960 by Brother Joel Damian, FSC, Christian Brothers Services (CBS) began as a mutual cooperative purchasing group for Chicago area high schools run by the De La Salle Christian Brothers. Under Brother Damian’s leadership, the Brothers realized they could purchase broader coverage at significantly reduced prices by pooling the financial resources and risk exposures of the schools, providing greater financial strength to both thecongregation and the individual institutions. Over time, Christian Brothers Services has grown to fund a variety of programs for Catholic congregations, organizations, schools, and dioceses in the United States. CBS continues to pool resources for such organizations, resulting in increased purchasing power, superior coverage at reduced rates, all while avoiding the large cost fluctuations most other purchasers face. This approach allows Christian Brothers Services to offer member organizations more flexibility and greater benefits choices.
