Job Summary

Own the media relations program for hospitals and clinical units, shaping strategy, executive storytelling, and crisis response while aligning with system goals.

  • Media Relations Strategy: Build and adapt proactive plans to position hospitals as trusted commentary resources across local, regional, and national outlets.
  • Executive Communications and Media Relationships: Write press materials and pitch stories; cultivate senior media relationships to boost visibility.
  • Crisis Management and Cross-Channel Alignment: Lead crisis response with leadership and ensure consistent, proactive communications across internal and external channels.

Job Description

Responsibilities
  • Developing and implementing proactive media relations strategies designed to further strengthen the reputation of assigned hospitals and/or clinical units.
  • Collaborating with assigned hospital and/or clinical unit leadership and others to identify opportunities for media engagement. Aligning and prioritizing media relations strategy and tactics in the context of the mission and business strategy of the system and assigned hospitals and/or clinical units.
  • Continuously evaluating effectiveness of those media relations strategies and adapt accordingly.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with local, regional and national media outlets. Proactively pitching stories to favorably position assigned hospitals and/or clinical units, and establish BILH organizations as a go-to resource for expert commentary.
  • Writing press releases, media advisories, opinion pieces and letters to the editor on behalf of assigned hospitals and/or clinical units.
  • In close collaboration and alignment with the Director of Media Relations and others, managing crises or adverse events to minimize any negative reputational impact on assigned hospitals and/or clinical units.
  • Contributing in a positive and collaborative manner to a client-centric operating model that provides proactive and responsive service and support to hospital and/or business unit leaders.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the Communications Department to ensure alignment and consistency across internal and external channels. Staying up-to-date on national trends and best practices in media relations and health care communications, as well as competitive news and trends.
  • Participates in Communications team on-call program.
  • Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities. Has authority to undertake or recommend the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews. Direct Reports: None Indirect Reports: None
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 5-8 years related work experience required in Media Relations and 0-1 years supervisory/management experience required
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
Preferred
  • Healthcare Experience.
