Job Summary

Own the strategic narrative for cross-stakeholder audiences by turning complex NASA/JPL milestones into clear, compelling messaging and campaigns that span the public, industry partners, and science communities.

  • Lead multi-channel storytelling and messaging architecture for high-impact programs.
  • Turn technical milestones into audience-facing narratives and event-ready content.
  • Collaborate across a nimble team to develop pitches, white papers, site visits, and high-level events.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Operational support for the Strategic Communications team which is a multi-disciplinary communications and design team focused on integrated communications planning, message development and creative for stakeholders across JPL, NASA and industry.
  • This Strategic Communications Specialist III position will report to the Manager of Strategic Communications. The Strategic Communications Specialist will be nimble, highly curious about NASA/JPL science and engineering, and relentlessly focused on delivering the highest quality products quickly and efficiently.
  • Develop products and messaging geared to all stakeholder groups inclusive of the public, NASA, aerospace, international partners, science communities and Program teams.
  • Organize complex technical milestones into compelling, creative narratives that resonate with audiences.
  • Support new content, product ideas, and messaging campaigns flexibly unconstrained by medium, including pitches, white papers proposals, site visits and other high level events.
  • Support project research to support strong messaging architecture for highly-complex projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Fine Arts, Science, or a related field with a minimum of 6 years of related experience; Masters in a related discipline with a minimum of 4 years of related experience; PhD in a related discipline with a minimum of 2 years of related experience.
  • Proven ability to field undefined requests and action them in smaller tasks, and a track record of delivering impactful products on tight deadlines.
  • Experience with diagram systems, gantt charts, proposals and data visualization.
  • Relentless focus on detail and strong design and storytelling instincts.
  • Genuine interest in and alignment with NASA’s mission to explore the unknown in air and space, innovate for the benefit of humanity, and inspire the world through discovery.
  • Punctual, detail oriented, resourceful and a self-motivated individual.
  • Exceptional creative and verbal communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in a fast-paced environment with responsibility for delivering concepts from inception through delivery.

Preferred

  • Experience working within a scientific, technical, or aerospace environment.
  • A portfolio of work that demonstrates your ability to take a complex topic and make it visually and narratively compelling.
  • Familiarity with common creative and project management tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro).
