Job Description
Responsibilities
- Serves as a writer and editor in the Office of Communications and Community Outreach.
- Identifies, develops and writes compelling stories that highlight Baylor College of Medicine’s achievements, innovation, research, education, patient care and community engagement.
- Creates strategic, audience-centered content for print, digital, web and social media platforms.
- Conducts interviews with faculty, staff, trainees, employees and institutional leaders to develop impactful stories and communications.
- Works with colleagues in the Office of Communications and Community Outreach and throughout the College to develop communications strategies that support institutional priorities and engagement goals.
- Provides comprehensive editing, proofreading and quality control to ensure accuracy, clarity, consistency and adherence to brand standards, with a strong background in AP Style.
- Translates academic medicine and healthcare topics into accessible and engaging content for diverse audiences.
- Advises leaders and stakeholders on messaging, tone, content development and communications best practices.
- Measures content performance and audience engagement and recommends strategies to improve reach and effectiveness.
- Attends and covers meetings and events for various internal and external communications.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree. Four years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- Four years of relevant experience.
- This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application and throughout the duration of employment.
Preferred
- Degree in Journalism and / or Broadcasting, Communications, Public Relations, Communications Studies, English.
- Strong writing skills and knowledge of AP Style.
- Experience with social media platforms, Canva, Photoshop and CMS (Unily / Druple).
- Strong interviewing skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities, a good people person.
