Job Summary

Own frontline support for Rockville’s web and social media presence as a part-time, in-person role guiding basic web/digital tasks and content updates.

  • Must-have: WordPress/CSS/HTML experience with UX awareness.
  • Standout: 20 hours/week in-city role supporting web, digital assets, and social platforms.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • This position is responsible for providing support to the city’s web and digital communications manager and the social media and digital engagement specialist with maintaining the City of Rockville’s websites, software platforms, digital media assets and social media platforms including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, lnstagram and YouTube.
  • This in-person role will work 20 hours a week with the Department of Communications and Community Engagement to ensure web, digital and social media presence are aligned with and support the organization's strategic goals and objectives.
  • The incumbent should have basic knowledge and awareness of best practices in web and digital media technologies, standards, and requirements.
  • Assist web and digital communications manager with website update requests and content management of the city website and related online platforms.
  • Assist social media and digital engagement specialist with compiling weekly email newsletters and creating graphics and other visual content for social media and digital platforms.
  • Uploading, digitizing and indexing “Rockville Reports” articles for use on the news module, e-newsletters and social media platforms.
  • Performs Other Duties As Assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with major coursework in communication, web design, digital communications, journalism, or closely related field; and one to three years of experience in digital communications, web design, and/or social media content creation; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong writing skills for the web and social media.
  • Knowledge of user experience (UX) best practices and plain language writing.
  • Knowledge of Associated Press (AP) style.
  • Knowledge of CSS, HTML and hands-on experience of content management systems, such as WordPress.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms, including experience with the Meta Business Suite.
  • Knowledge of graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva and/or social media graphic design software.
  • Experience with macOS.
  • Knowledge of good design, typography, color, and their application on the web.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Preferred

  • Preferred: Experience with Email Marketing Platforms Such As Mailchimp.
